MEP’s executive director Steve Morse was interviewed by the Cucking Stool yesterday after he testified in the Senate State Government Innovation committee against Senate File 1922, a very bad bill that repeals all rules from five state agencies: PCA, DNR, BWSR, EQB and Dept. of Ag. These rules involve protections of our drinking water, mercury, regulating waste in our water, the health of our milk, our air quality, pipeline safety, and more.
The hearing opened with Sen. John Pederson, one of the chief authors of the bill, loudly protesting, MEP’s press release on the effect of the bill’s repealer section. He called the press release a serious misrepresentation.
But readers ought to go to Section 13, Subdivision 2 of SF1922 and decide for themselves who is the mis-representer.
Senator Pederson was either 1) so misinformed about his own bill that he doesn’t know what it says, or 2) he was lying.
The bill language on the legislature’s webpage only has 9 sections. I’m confused regarding the reference to Section 13 above.
It’s possible the bill has been amended since the video was shot; I don’t have the time to check at the moment, but you can look at the history of the bill and see what amendments were made. I will try to do that in coming days, but no promises.
