Shiloh Temple Community Solar Garden Ribbon Cutting

February 20, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join Shiloh Temple International Ministries, Cooperative Energy Futures, and the Just Solar Coalition as we celebrate boots on the roof of Shiloh Temple. In February 2018 construction will begin on the first “Just Community Solar” Array in Minnesota. This array will host 630 panels or 204 KW of power that will provide electricity for Shiloh Temple, Masjid an Nur and 26 neighborhood residents.

12:00 Noon Press Conference

12:30 Ribbon Cutting and Tours of the Roof

1:00 PM Tours and Workshop Opportunities at the new Training Facility in North Minneapolis

The array is being developed by Cooperative Energy Futures, a founding member of the Just Solar Coalition.  This array will be a first in many ways:

  • It is the first residential Community Solar Array in Xcel Energy’s Minnesota program to offer subscriptions to all neighborhood residents, regardless of income and credit score.
  • This array will be built by Innovative Power Systems with a crew from North Minneapolis.  The training program that was launched to staff projects like Shiloh is growing to include training programs in Minnesota Prisons, and a brant new training center in North Minneapolis run by Renewable Energy Partners.
  • In an area of Minnesota with some of the worst Asthma rates in the state, the array will rely on energy from the sun, reducing the need for coal powered electricity.
  • The array is being built by a cooperative of Minnesota residents.  Those benefiting from the power will also be member owners of the cooperative array.
