The workshop will focus on how to incorporate cover crops into different farming practices and the importance of cover crop seed origination. Presenters will also talk about cover crop species and establishment, as well as a “Year One” cover crop plan.
Speakers will include “Cover Crop Champion” Tom Cotter of Austin, Minn., who raises row crops and canning crops, as well as grazes beef on the many acres of cover crops that he is fall seeding and interseeding on his cash crop acres. In addition, Saddlebutte AG cover crop specialist TJ Kartes, who helps manage his uncle’s farm in Blooming Prairie, Minn., will speak. Martin Larsen, who farms near Byron, Minn., will discuss how he no-tills corn and soybeans while incorporating cover crops on his land. Larson also works for the Olmstead County SWCD and will share the results of a nitrate smapling project that looks at cover crops’ ability to hold excess nitrogen.
This event is free and includes a pizza dinner. No need to RSVP. For more information, see this flier.
