On Saturday June 1st, Environment Minnesota be holding a Canoe Rally at Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis to show support for protecting the Boundary Waters area. As you know, new sulfide mining proposals are a dangerous threat to Minnesota’s natural treasures, including the Boundary Waters and Lake Superior. Many of you have already taken action to protect our clean water and wilderness from this threat, and awareness is growing. This summer we’re planning to get out and talk to thousands of citizens about the issue, so help us kick off the season with a bang! Join us at our Canoe Rally at Lake Calhoun on Saturday June 1st.
We’re asking our staff, interns, volunteers, and supporters to come to the lake, paddle with us, sign petitions, and help raise awareness about sulfide mining and the threat it poses to the Boundary Waters. We’re planning a picnic, and have started to create props and signs — we expect this to be a really fun event! Our allies in Ely Minnesota, are hosting the Grand Opening of the Sustainable Ely headquarters and paddling on the Kawishiwi River. We join them in solidarity!
Wear your favorite outdoor gear — life jackets, fishing hats, BWCA t-shirts, and more. And don’t forget to bring a paddle! Click here to let us know you can come.
