On February 15th, Carleton College will be hosting “The Plight of the Pollinators: A Conversation with Rep. Rick Hansen.” News of the rapid decline of honey bees, monarch butterflies, and native pollinators isn’t new. The problem is largely due to a lack of habitat and the prevalence of a new class of systemic insecticides that are wiping out pollinators.
Minnesota has been one of the leaders on this issue, both through state and local action, but also through the actions of concerned citizens. Still, there’s a lot more to be done. During this event you will hear about on the ground impacts with beekeepers, local efforts with Northfield City Councilor Erica Zweifel, what can be done across Greater Minnesota with Rep. David Bly (DFL-Northfield), and about the bigger picture with Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL-South Saint Paul). Come and join the discussion on what can be done to help pollinators.
