Landscape Ecology Awards Ceremony Showcases Phalen Chain History

Join the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District at its annual LEAP (Landscape Ecology Awards Program) Ceremony and hear Dr. Carrie Jennings relate the fascinating story of the Phalen Chain of Lakes – Willow, Kohlman, Gervais, Spoon, Keller, and Phalen.

6:30 pm — LEAP Awards Ceremony honoring good landscaping practices that help preserve and improve water quality and natural resources. This year’s five LEAP winners include two schools, two private residences and a townhome association in the cities of North St. Paul, St. Paul, Woodbury and White Bear Lake. All honorees conducted landscaping projects that removed invasive plants, added beneficial native species, decreased stormwater runoff and improved wildlife habitat.

7:30 pm—”The Life and Times of the Phalen Chain” presented by Dr. Carrie Jennings, a Research Scientist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Adjunct Faculty for the University of Minnesota’s Department of Geology. Dr. Jennings will captivate you as she unravels the secrets of the chain’s geologic history and reveals what it means for those of us who enjoy these lakes today.

Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the public, but please RSVP to Shelly at 651-792-7965 or shelly@rwmwd.org
