The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is only holding ONE public meeting before they decide whether to remove (“de-list”) lower 48 gray wolves from the Endangered Species list. And it’s next Tuesday in Brainerd. In Minnesota, the outlook for wolves if federal protections are removed would be dire. When the gray wolf was de-listed in 2011, the State of Minnesota authorized an open hunting and trapping season which continued for three years and resulted in the killing of 923 wolves, until the gray wolf was again declared protected by federal court order. Removing protections for wolves throughout the entire US will severely diminish their ability to recover. We can’t let them push gray wolves back toward extinction. At the hearing, you can be a voice for these iconic, still-recovering gray wolves. You’ll be able to ask questions, give public comment, and give your testimony about why gray wolf recovery and co-existence is better management than mass hunts. The wolves are counting on your help for their survival. Will you be there next Tuesday in Brainerd? |
