The public is welcome for refreshments at 6:30 p.m., followed by the 7 p.m. presentation.
Joe Kruse, a native of Wisconsin’s frac sand region, will describe the relationship between fracking for oil and mining of the sand necessary to the process. In particular, he will focus on the effects of frac sand mining in southeastern Minnesota, and cover some of the environmental effects, which are not yet fully understood.
Kruse will discuss the arguments for frac sand mining and explain the opposing arguments. He is involved with Minnesota’s frac sand organizing effort and will update the issue’s status at the Legislature.
LWV supports protection of natural resources and careful assessment of the impact of frac sand mining on our communities and the environment. The views expressed by Kruse are his own. Audience discussion will follow the presentation.
