Minnesolar Movie Screening Party

September 20, 2012 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Join Sierra Club and Minnesota Environmental Partnership for a screening of Jen Eichten’s “MinneSolar” Movie! We’ll start with a reception with appetizers and drinks at 6:30 p.m., the show will start at 7 p.m. with an introduction from the filmmaker, and afterwards we’ll have a Q&A with solar experts. Space is limited at this microcinema! Contact Jessica Tatro at jessica.tatro@sierraclub.org or 612-659-9124 ext 309 to RSVP.

Don’t let the cold winters fool you – Minnesota’s solar potential is as good as Houston, Texas. But, Minnesota is not using the sun to anything like its full potential. We need supporters from across the state to speak up for solar.

Xcel Energy is Minnesota’s largest energy provider and a leader in clean energy. Yet Xcel’s most recent long term energy plan is silent about solar. In fact, Xcel plans to phase out its solar rebate program – which has helped scores of homeowners and businesses – by 2013. What is in Xcel’s long range energy plan? Burning dirty coal for another 12+ years, including at the largest coal plant in Minnesota, Sherco, which contributes to 1600 asthma attacks each year.

Instead of wasting money on dirty coal plants, Xcel needs to invest wholeheartedly in clean energy. Join us at the MinneSolar Screening Party and take action to call on Xcel Energy to stop burning coal at Sherco and add at least 1000 megawatts of solar power to their system by 2025.
