Margaret Street Public Hearing

February 7, 2018 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

In 2018, the City of Saint Paul plans to construct significant enhancements on the Margaret St Bike Boulevard, which runs through the East Side from Forest St all the way to McKnight Rd. This federally-funded project will include five traffic circles, numerous bump-outs, sidewalks on all or parts of 4 blocks where none currently exist, and a new off-street trail along the west side of McKnight Rd from Minnehaha Ave to Hudson Rd. This will allow cyclists to reach trails and traffic signals to the north or south and more easily cross McKnight.

The City also plans to close the medians that run along Johnson Pkwy at Margaret St. This will reduce and slow down traffic along Margaret Street, shorten crossing distances on Johnson Parkway, and eliminate the danger posed by turning vehicles. All these measures will make it easier and safer for bikes and pedestrians to cross Johnson Pkwy. In addition, the city plans to build an off-street trail down the eastern median in 2020 as part of improvements to The Grand Round. Eliminating some street crossings of this trail will be important for making it safer and more pleasant to ride on.

The City Council will hold a public hearing in this manner at 5:30. Please come and testify that you support this project!

Our organizers are available to meet with people who would like extra support on how to effectively testify at public hearing. If you have questions, please contact Theresa Nelson via email or at 651-789-1402.
