Tend native plants at Indian Mounds Park

June 21, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Tending plants at Indian Mounds Park

Volunteers are needed to join Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) at Indian Mounds Park on Tuesday, June 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. to tend native plants along the bluff prairie previously installed by other Indian Mounds Park stewards.

By removing invasive species and assisting with other tending tasks, volunteers will help the plants make it through the summer. Thanks to their deep roots, the prairie plants help anchor the steep bluff soil and filter pollutants, such as oil and lawn chemicals, carried to the bluff by stormwater. They will also provide important bee, butterfly and bird habitat. (As opposed to the invasive species volunteers will be removing, such as burdock, which is deadly for bats and small birds.)

To ensure a high quality experience, capacity is limited and preregistration required. For more information, including how to register, please visit visit: http://fmr.org/events/2016/06/21/tend-native-plants-indian-mounds-park
