National Public Lands Day – Vermillion Stewards Celebration & Cleanup!

September 28, 2013 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

This National Public Lands Day, come celebrate and contribute to the great work accomplished by all the Vermillion Stewards! First, we’ll help pick up litter along the Mississippi River at Lake Rebecca during the lower water levels of autumn, then we’ll enjoy a brief celebration of Vermillion Stewards accomplishments with lunch and refreshments! All are welcome!

Volunteers will meet at beautiful Schaar’s Bluff in Hastings, then hop on a bus to Lake Rebecca Park, an “oxbow” park adjacent to Lock and Dam #2 and the Mississippi River. After receiving garbage bags and gloves, volunteers will walk and collect litter and other debris that has accumulated along the river and floodplain over the summer months. There are also forested areas and trail- or road-side areas where volunteers can choose to work. All supplies are provided and FMR staff will be on-hand for further direction and support as needed.

Following the short clean-up, volunteers will head back to Schaar’s Bluff for an end-of-year Vermillion River Stewards celebration with lunch and refreshments!

If you’d like to register for this event, please email FMR Registrar Lindsay Hefferan at lhefferan@fmr.org and include your contact information and the number attending. She will then email you a confirmation email with event details and directions to the meeting spot.
