The U.S. House and Senate today voted overwhelmingly to pass a combined bill covering transportation, student loans, and flood insurance.

Word out of Washington is that the House and Senate are (finally) closing in on a longer-term extension of the federal transportation bill. Such an agreement would be an important step, but rumblings also suggest that funding for walking and biking projects (about 1.5 percent of federal transportation funding) will be cut or eliminated as part of the deal.
