The Animal Agriculture Reform Collaborative (AARC) seeks a relational, highly motivated Senior Coalition Organizer to deepen alignment, collaboration, and momentum among a growing network. AARC’s member organizations are committed to systems-level reform of the animal agriculture industry working around a shared vision of a just, sustainable animal agriculture system that is accountable to people.

The purpose of the Senior Coalition Organizer role is to build and strengthen collaboration among organizations ranging from community to state-level membership-based to national organizations. In this role, you will deepen engagement in—and support for—collaborative campaigns led by member organizations while developing shared resources and trainings to grow capacity and connection among member organizations.
Racial justice and equity are critical components of our strategies and practices. The Senior Coalition Organizer will work with member organizations to help build a powerful and interconnected base in impacted communities and across a broad range of constituencies and sectors to challenge corporate control of the food system.
- Manage overall internal organizing program, develop systems to support effective and consistent engagement with member organizations by AARC staff.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with member organizations to increase their participation in AARC.
- Organize with AARC member leaders around shared goals leading to deeper collaboration between member organizations.
- Help plan AARC’s annual member gathering – a working meeting focused on shared learning, planning, and new strategy formation.
- Continually seek new ways to expand relationships with current membership.
- Coordinate a community of practice for rural organizers focused on racial justice and equity strategy, and skill building for intersectional base building.
Membership Outreach & Engagement:
- Develop and lead new member onboarding program to facilitate new connections and strong participation.
- Apply strong relational skills to the outreach, member engagement and onboarding process.
- Continually seek new opportunities to engage prospective members, including organizations led by directly impacted communities.
Training & Resource Development:
- Assess shared needs among AARC members and develop potential solutions from concept to implementation.
- Organize trainings to strengthen coalition member capacity for base building, communications and more.
- Support AARC members in strategy development to integrate racial justice and equity into their community organizing.
- Identify opportunities for knowledge sharing between member organizations at in-person meetings, by webinar, and through individual connections.
Campaign Accelerator Program:
- Oversee management of campaign accelerator grant process to ensure a smooth and relational process.
- Foster relationships amongst campaigns to build community.
- Ensure the campaigns are leveraging all available services, including in-kind opportunities.
- Assist in ‘standing up’ new campaign(s) to develop systems, structures, planning, and partnerships for intersectional, collaboratively led campaigns pushing for systemic change.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a passionate advocate for systems change grounded in racial and economic justice, high-welfare regenerative and sustainable agriculture, and people-centered democracy. You listen closely, are curious about, and empathize with, other points of view, all motivating your intersectional approach. You possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a strong track record of fostering collaboration across a diverse audience. You have a thorough knowledge of successfully increasing membership engagement within coalitions with a focus on strategic issues and organizing campaign planning.
Must be team-oriented and conversant in all modes of communication including strong phone, text, email, and video conferencing skills. Excellent writing skills a must. This job requires regular out-of-state travel following pandemic safety guidelines.
Comprehensive compensation package includes: salary range $58,000 – $65,000 (based on experience and skillset), benefits including excellent medical and dental benefits, retirement savings, and generous vacation and sick leave policy. Full-time position based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with optional remote work for the right candidate. Reports to the Executive Director. Ideal start date in early September 2021.
