POSITION TITLE: Legal Administrative Assistant
REPORTS TO: Chief Legal Officer
JOB STATUS: Part-Time (20hr/wk), Hourly Non-Exempt
SALARY RANGE: $16.00-$21.00/hour DOQ
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
To provide administrative assistance to MCEA attorneys, law clerks, interns, and volunteers as well as back-up administrative support, as needed, to MCEA’s other staff.
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
A. Provide legal administrative assistance to MCEA attorneys: prepare/format briefs, comments, discovery, exhibits, testimony, and appellate records; prepare for court hearings; open and close legal matters, possess knowledge and use of proper legal service and filing procedures, including electronic filing and service procedures in administrative forums, state and federal courts; maintain proper attorney registration; assist in tracking and recording continuing education credits; update legal calendar; and support weekly staff and advocacy meetings.
B. Provide general clerical support: compose correspondence, copying, scanning, file organization; some delivery and retrieving tasks to courts or offices.
C. Provide back-up admin support: schedule meetings, make travel arrangements, event registrations, and expense reimbursement forms for legal staff.
D. Information and document management: maintanence and organization of active and archived legal/project files including both paper and electronic versions. Track discovery filings, maintain and share/circulate indexes as necessary.
E. Law Clerks, Interns, and Volunteers: assist clerk or intern supervisor with job posting and hiring process, complete, submit, and retain necessary forms and timesheets, assist with office orientation and time tracking for quarterly reporting as necessary.
A. Provide back-up administrative support for non-legal MCEA staff as needed when time allows.
B. Support weekly staff and advocacy meetings: prepare and disseminate minutes, maintain staff meeting files.

Administrative assistant or secretarial experience.
Physical ability to make deliveries/filings.
Legal assistant or paralegal experience.
Environmental or non-profit experience.
Knowledge of electronic filing and service procedures in state and/or federal courts.
