Community Energy Planner

The Center for Energy and Environment (CEE) is hiring for a new Community Energy Planner. We are seeking a candidate with experience in group facilitation, data analysis and project management, and a passion for community-based work to join our team. This role requires big picture thinking, as well as nimble problem-solving, with strong organizational, communication and relationship management skills. You will be joining a motivated team that values creativity, hard work, and open communication. This position does not have any direct reports and reports to the Senior Manager, Community Planning.

This position will have the option of working from home or working out of either our Minneapolis-North Loop or St. Paul-Midway office location. There will be periodic needs to attend in person meetings, community workshops, and department or organizational outings.

CEE is a data-driven, consumer-focused, and community-based clean energy nonprofit with locations in the North Loop of Minneapolis and St. Paul’s Midway, with satellite offices in several other states. Responsibilities:

The Community Energy Planner will primarily work with communities participating in Xcel Energy’s Partners in Energy program, which supports local governments and other community entities to create energy action plans and provides targeted assistance with the implementation of these plans. In addition, the Planner will support CEE’s broader community energy consulting work.

  • Lead a portfolio of communities at different stages of planning and implementation, serving as lead project manager tracking budgets and community work plans
  • Coordinate communication between community and utility points of contact to keep projects on track
  • Plan and facilitate community stakeholder meetings and workshops, including managing meeting logistics, making presentations, facilitating group decision making, and coordinating follow-up activities
  • Write energy plans and reports, documenting the community planning process and implementation strategies
  • Create actionable work plans with community and utility partners to transition communities from planning to implementation phases
  • Support community-led implementation strategies with project management, campaign design, and content development for implementation collateral
  • Interpret and communicate energy data to measure progress toward community goals
  • Recognize and uphold established program standards to deliver consistent work products, including attention to branding and communications protocols

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in community planning, stakeholder outreach and engagement, group facilitation, and/or energy services
  • Excellent writing, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including comfort with public speaking
  • Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Successful experience with process design and facilitation of group decision making
  • Experience leading planning processes with multiple stakeholder groups
  • Experience with client relationship management and navigating dynamic relationships
  • Experience working with communities in a planning or project implementation capacity
  • Experience using data to inform decision making
  • Exceptional attention to detail and diligent follow-through
  • Exceptional computer skills, including advanced skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must demonstrate time-management skills and the ability to meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar working with or within local government entities
  • Knowledge of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure
  • Knowledge of energy utilities, regulatory framework, and climate policies

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to perform work indoors in an office environment, regardless of whether cubicle, open office, or private office

Access to reliable transportation to attend meetings and off-site events at multiple CEE offices and in communities, including transportation of materials and equipment as needed. Throughout the pandemic, CEE has made the safety of our workforce our first priority. Compensation:

Dependent upon qualifications and experience, we expect the hiring range for the position to be $58,000-$61,000.
