Watersheds: Clean Water, Wild Places, and Healthy Communities, 2013 Sigurd Olson Lecture Series

February 19, 2013 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Lecturer – Tim BristolThe Sigurd Olson Lecture Series has brought visionary conservationists to speak in Minnesota each spring since the 1982 death of writer, naturalist and wilderness advocate Sigurd F. Olson.  Each year, the lectures highlight current natural resource issues by national conservation leaders. All lectures are free and open to the public.

This year’s lecturer, Tim Bristol, will talk about conservation work in the Tongass National Forest, where revisions to the forest management plan, the roadless rule, and other changes have led to the opportunity for significant watershed protection and in Bristol Bay, where monumental challenges to the watershed arise out of a proposed massive copper mine in the headwaters.

Tim has been with TU (America’s largest cold water fish conservation organization) since June 2005.  Prior to TU, Tim served as Executive Director of the Alaska Coalition for more than four years.  He also served as the Alaska Field Organizer for Save Our Wild Salmon and spent five years as a Tongass forest issues organizer of the Southeast Alaska Conservation Council.
