Minnesota responds to climate change: a report from COP24

January 30, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Global warming is having significant and harmful impacts on our communities, our health, and our climate. We must take immediate, unprecedented action to address global warming. In November, Minnesotans elected many candidates to public office who listed climate action as a top priority. And in December, diplomats from nearly 200 countries convened in Poland to discuss accelerating their climate commitments. Minnesota and the world now face a critical moment of opportunity to achieve deep, economy-wide carbon reductions through policy innovation. Minnesota is a leader in demonstrating that practical solutions can dramatically cut carbon pollution while improving our quality of life.

Fresh Energy is partnering with Global Minnesota for a discussion featuring our science policy director J. Drake Hamilton, on developments from the most recent global climate summit and ideas about effective next steps in Minnesota. The program will also include a panel discussion with 3M vice president and chief sustainability officer, Dr. Gayle Schueller and Minnesotans who attended the UN climate change conference, including from the College of St. Benedict & St. John’s University, sociologist Dr. Corrie Grosse and St. Ben’s senior communication major, Jia Zeng from Chengdu, China.
