Attend our Year in the Wilderness Book Release Party and Silent Auction

September 25, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

“It doesn’t take a year to fall in love with a place. Sometimes all it takes is one sunset, a hike, a brief encounter with wildlife, a clear view of the Milky Way, or even a photograph. Our year in the Wilderness heightened our respect for the Boundary Waters and strengthened our resolve to keep it as it is—untrammeled, unpolluted, and wild. We hope this book can help readers fall in love with the Boundary Waters all over again and introduce new audiences to its beauty and importance. These photos, these pages—this book—will help us each continue to speak loudly for this quiet place.”
—Amy and Dave Freeman

WHAT: September marks one year since Dave and Amy Freeman left the Boundary Waters and returned to civilization. Join the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters and local nonprofit publisher Milkweed Editions to celebrate this special anniversary and the release of Dave and Amy Freeman’s new book A Year in the Wilderness. This book details the incredible story of all they witnessed and learned from living on the land, their personal motivations during the year and why it’s important to protect wild places. Participate in a silent auction supporting the Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters, drink great beer, and hear from Dave and Amy about their new adventure writing a book!

WHEN: Monday, September 25, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

TICKETS: $15/person, additional donations encouraged. Proceeds from your tickets, donations and silent auction purchases will help permanently protect the 1.1 million acres of roadless, unspoiled woodlands and pristine water that make up the Boundary Waters from proposed sulfide-ore copper mines along the edge of the Wilderness.

FOOD/DRINK: Ticket includes one drink ticket. Additional drinks and food from Potter’s Pasties Food Truck available for purchase at the event.

THE BOOK: A Year in the Wilderness, published by local nonprofit publisher Milkweed Editions and selected as one of 20 Big Indie Books of Fall 2017 by Publisher’s Weekly, is about Dave and Amy Freeman’s 2,000-mile journey by canoe, ski, and dog team in the Boundary Waters, which lasted from September 2015 to September 2016. In the book’s pages, they write about hearing loons whistling softly under a moonrise, hearing ice booming as it forms and cracks, and watching a moose and her calf swimming across a misty lake. Over 145 photos show the beauty of all four seasons in the Boundary Waters.

You can get a signed copy of the book by pre-ordering online or purchasing a copy at the event.
