Pollinators, Plants and You

March 5, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Have you heard the buzz about bees?  Do you want to attract butterflies to your garden?  Are you thinking about trying some native plants?  Have you wondered how to even start a flower or vegetable garden?  We’re here to answer those questions!  On March 5 in the commons, join us for a gardening event filled with lots of opportunities to learn.  Beginning at 10:00 am through noon, local volunteers will facilitate round table discussions or activities covering:

  1. Pollinator Pathway – find out how St. Anthony is getting ready to support pollinators
  2. Garden mechanics – how to start a garden, or share your successful practices from your garden
  3. Starting seeds in milk cartons – no need to worry about grow lights and heating mats!
  4. Seed exchange – bring extra seeds to share with other gardeners, and sign up to share plants
  5. Kid’s activities – plant a garden glove, or play a monarch game
  6. Garden design for pollinators, and using native plants

Gather in the sanctuary at 10:30 to hear Dawn Pape, a master gardener, author and “Lawn Chair Gardener” share her thoughts about how we can make a difference by gardening.  Dawn will conclude her talk with a fun puppet show based on her book, Mason Meets a Mason Bee.  At 11:15, kids and adults are invited to participate in a Monarch game.  Child care is available.   Contact Donna Steinwand, donnasteinwand95@gmail.com or Lona Doolan,  mill0682@umn.edu or Lynette Thompson, gardener772@comcast.net for more information.
